funding this year, Princeton Digital Group sees room for further expansion of its Asia data centre platform, despite growing competition in the region\u2019s hyperscale market from regional startups and global heavyweights, the company\u2019s chairman and chief executive told an industry forum on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>PDG co-founder and chairman Rangu Salgame said in an exclusive interview with MTD TV on Tuesday that by pioneering Asia\u2019s hyperscale market starting in 2017 his company has been able to establish country-level teams in the markets it serves, and build a strong balance sheet which gives it an edge as Internet giants look for rackspace around the region.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a data-no-instant=\"1\" terms of where the revenue drivers are and all the demand signals continue to point in that direction of 20 percent plus growth [for the entire region],\u201d\u00a0 Salgame told Mingtiandi\u2019s APAC Data Centre Forum, which is sponsored by Yardi.. \u201cWe feel good in terms of the growth opportunities and what PDG can capture in the market growth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Given rising demand from cloud providers, e-commerce platforms and streaming content networks, the Salgame is projecting at least 20 percent annual revenue growth in the coming years across Asia Pacific as the region increasingly turns to cloud computing solutions.<\/p>\n<h3>More Markets<\/h3>\n<p>Founded in 2017 through a tie-up with Warburg Pincus, Salgame said the company has been able to scale its portfolio to a \u201cformidable footprint\u201d of 600 megawatts across 20 projects completed or under construction in China, Singapore, India, Indonesia and Japan.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_242285\" style=\"width: region within the near term, particularly in India and Japan, as border reopenings make it easier for his teams to scout for more deals and projects.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are definitely investing a lot in the countries we already operate in,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd of course we will look into entering a couple of new markets in the next 12 to 18 months and we are very excited about that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In February, the hyperscale specialist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mingtiandi.com\/real-estate\/data-centres\/mubadala-leads-funding-for-princeton-digital-data-centres\/\">secured $505 million in fresh cash<\/a> to expand its operations in the region, led by a $350 million commitment from Abu Dhabi\u2019s Mubadala Investment Company.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>That fresh funding came less than a year after PDG committed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mingtiandi.com\/real-estate\/data-centres\/princeton-digital-launches-third-jakarta-data-centre\/\">$150 million to developing its third data centre in Jakarta, Indonesia<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mingtiandi.com\/real-estate\/data-centres\/princeton-digital-group-to-build-97mw-tokyo-data-centre\/\">entered the Japanese market<\/a> with a $1 billion commitment to develop a 97 megawatt hyperscale campus near Tokyo.<\/p>\n<p>Salgame said demand from hyperscalers had been rising rapidly even before the pandemic, with that trend having been bolstered by the growth of e-commerce and cloud adoption over the past two years.<\/p>\n<h3>Opportunities in Consolidation<\/h3>\n<p>The shift to the cloud has encouraged startups to build more data centres, lured major global players like Digital Realty and Equinix to enter the APAC market, and even pushed cloud providers such as Google and Amazon to expand their network of the facilities in the region.<\/p>\n<p>With more players in the market, PDG see its institutional backing and experience in the region as giving it an advantage as new players enter and customers increasingly look for data centre platforms able to support requirements at the regional level.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a data-no-instant=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe&#8217;ve been able to edge out in the market, we got a five year lead and.. I believe we will be in a good position to partner, acquire companies as they start coming out,\u201d Salgame said. \u201cWe want the industry to grow, there&#8217;ll be some good businesses that will come and this market is not about winner takes all\u2026 but we got a good lead that will give us a position in the market to lead the consolidation.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Hyperscale In Focus<\/h3>\n<p>Following Tuesday\u2019s discussion with Salgame, Mingtiandi\u2019s APAC Data Centre Forum will continue to focus on the hyperscale sector with a panel discussion on Wednesday, 14 September.<\/p>\n<p>In Wednesday\u2019s session, executives <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mingtiandi.com\/real-estate\/events\/panel-investing-in-asias-hyperscale-market\/\">from Logos, Cushman &amp; Wakefield and Baker McKenzie<\/a> will share from their experiences serving the region\u2019s Internet giants, as well as looking at the challenges facing competitors in the fast-growing segment.<\/p>\n<p>In the hyperscale panel, Mingtiandi founder Michael Cole will speak with Paul Dwyer, head of data centres for LOGOS; Cushman &amp; Wakefield managing director Vivek Dahiya, who leads data centre advisory in India and Southeast Asia for the consulting firm; and Baker McKenzie partner Edwin Wong, who advises on fund investments in the data centre industry.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, 15 September, MTD TV will focus on the Greater China market with a panel led by Joelin Ma, director for non-listed real estate in Asia with APG Asset Management.
